U-14 Girls vs Elks Benefit a Huge Success
by posted 09/05/2010

U-14 Girls vs. Elks Benefit

Thank you to the Meriden’s Elks Club for helping Sabrina Statham raise money for the "Play Hard Play Fair" charities. The event was the brain child of Sabrina. She wanted to arrange a benefit game against a local organization. She contacted the Elks in Meriden because they sponsor the soccer shoot-out each year. The Elks had a team of about 24 players strong. Their coach made constant adjustments to his line-up as the U-14 girls dominated the first half.  The Elks' goalies kept the U-14 girls at bay until the girls' made adjustments and score three times. The final score was 3 to 0.

Thank you to Lynda Stratham for making sure all things ran orderly. Thank you to Michele and Keith Stocking form the Meriden Elks for coordinating this event with Sabrina and Lynda Statham. Thank you to the band, "Fist Full of Change" who played throughout the event. Their music was the perfect mix for young and old. We invited the Elks back next year for what we hope will be an annual event.

Please remember the Elks' Soccer Shoot-Out is next Sunday at 12:00 at Baldwin's Pond. This event is free. Please check the Meriden Elks' website for more details.

In-town Tournament
by tom moore posted 06/27/2010

The First Annual MSC In-Town Tournament took place on June 19th at Kronenberger Field. Weve Valery was the director of the event. The Mites program was designed in many skills stations that were fun and tested the player’s soccer skills.

The U-8 and U-10 players played a round robin style tournament. Each team played three games. The team who won their division won trophies. All participants received medals. Joe Pierce assisted in the event and ordered the medals and trophies.

Thank you to Lynda, Amy and Sabrina Statham for running the concession stand, handing out awards and collecting registrations at this event.

Thank you to Weve for one of the best endings to our in-town program in recent memory.

Concession Stand Heros
by tom moore posted 06/27/2010

Thank you to Lynda, Amy and Sabrina Statham for running the concession stand and collecting registrations throughout the season. There were days when they worked from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. They constantly changed the menu to accommodate the changing weather.

Lynda and Sabrina collected deposit bottle and cans and donated the proceeds to the C.J.S.A. "Play Hard Play Fair" campaign. They also baked every Friday night and had a bake sale each Saturday morning to also raise money for the "Play Hard Play Fair" charity.

In addition, Lynda, Amy and Sabrina also collected used uniforms which they sent to our service men and women to distribute to the children of Afghanistan.

Oh, did I mention that they painted the concession stand too.  The stand has a 7' by 6' MSC logo painted on the side.

During Lynda's free time, she is the MSC secretary.

I would will to thank the ladies for their positive attitude and their strong commitment to your community and club.

MSC CARES INTERNATIONAL!!

Parents and Friends of the Meriden Soccer Club,

Does your child have old soccer jerseys piling up at home and you’re not sure what to do with them all? Why not consider donating them to a great cause. We are currently accepting donations of gently used jerseys, socks and shorts to donate to the troops so they can get a soccer league started for the Afghan refugees! They have nothing, so any t-shirt or jersey with a number on the back would be greatly appreciated. You can donate your items at the concession stand during any training time or home game. Ask your friends and family to donate too! The more we send, the more kids will be able to play. So let’s clean out those closets and dressers to make a big difference. Thanks for your help!

Our first uniform packages went out on July 9th, 2010. We will continue to ship uniforms as the year continues.

New Patch Program/How to Iron Patch
by posted 11/07/2009

MSC Patch Program

Players receive small patches to collect for we season they participate. Each coach should have handed out the patches at the last game of the season. Please collect the patches and iron them on your soccer backpack. If you would like to purchase an MSC backpack ($30.00) please contact .

The patches are a new tradition to mark your child's progression in our developmental program. Please do not iron them on your uniforms because of travel uniform regulations. We want you to have a permanent keepsake to track your development in the Meriden Soccer Club.

How to attach black and white soccer ball patches:

Children should not iron on the patches; use the iron only with an adult present.

  1. FIRST, a few patches may have a sticker on the back (on the glue side). If there is a sticker, remove it from each patch before ironing.

  2. To iron on the patches, first warm up the iron for 5 minutes (unless it is a rapid heat iron) on a medium (silk/wool) setting (or higher if possible without scorching the fabric). The iron must be hot enough to melt the glue.

  3. Then position the patch where you want it to permanently be with the glue side against the fabric.

  4. Press the iron firmly to the patch and hold for 10 seconds as a test. It usually takes 20-25 seconds to fully melt the glue, but irons vary, so be careful and don't burn or melt the fabric. If the glue isn't fully melted or if you handle the patch while the patch is still warm, the patch may start to come off the fabric. If this happens, iron it on again. To prevent burning of the polyester, or patches and to get better adhesion: First, position the patch in the desired location. Then turn the material inside out and iron through the material against the underside of the patch. This allows you to see areas where the glue was not fully contacting with the material, get better heating and overall a better application. The patches should stay on much better. Also washing in delicate, or hand wash and laying flat, or clothes line to dry helps.

  5. You MUST let the Patch set for a few minutes until it is cool before you handle it.

  6. Our patches have excellent adhesion that is superior to any other one inch iron-on patches we have tried. Once the patch is ironed on, it may not be possible to remove it without damaging the fabric.

  7. Patches can be ironed on most fabrics. They are often ironed on jersey sleeves, backs or fronts. The only problem you might experience is if you have a textured fabric that the glue can't adhere to. In those cases or if you don’t want them to be permanent, you can put a few stitches in each one, or use fabric glue to hold it on. Patches probably won't stay on stretchy material such as socks or head bands unless you sew them on with a thread.

IMPORTANT: Don't wash or dry the fabric that has patches glued onto it using extreme heat -- hot water or an extremely hot dryer can soften the glue and cause the patches to come off the fabric. Wash on a warm or cool setting, and dry on a medium or lower setting -- the higher the heat, the more likely it is that the patch will come off. After repeated washing and drying, the patches may come off. The best way to ensure this doesn't happen is to use a needle and thread to put a stitch in the patch that secures it to the fabric -- that way the patch won't fall off and you can iron it back on.

To put patches on ball caps and similar items: You will need to use a glue such as “Goop”, which can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowe’s and many stores; you will need to let the glue dry for as long as recommended (24 hours for Goop). Super Glue does NOT work well. NOTE that they may not stick to all items, and the glue you use will determine how well they stick and stay.

Some leagues who re-use the jerseys from year to year do not want patches ironed on, and some leagues prohibit any type of emblem on the uniforms. If you are unsure of whether your league allows patches to be ironed on uniforms, check your league rules and be creative.

Friends of Falcon Field
by posted 04/16/2009

The Friends of Falcon Field are selling bricks to raise money to improve and maintain the field. Each brick cost $45.00. You can have your name or a loved ones' name inscribed on each brick. This is a priceless way of supporting Falcon Field. $5.00 of each brick sold through this website will go towards the Meriden Soccer Club. Please support this worthy cause.
