Field Closure at Kronenberger
by posted 07/01/2009

The upper (right) field at Kronenberger will be closed for the summer.  We will be filling in low spots (caused by vandals) and reseeding.  Thank you to Mark Zabora and his staff for getting the irrigation system up and running.  This will allow us to grow grass in the summer if we experience a dry spell. If all goes well, we are planning to open the field by the end of August.

Thank you!

Congratulations to the U-12 Boys Recreation Team
by posted 06/30/2009

U12 Boys

Overall we had a perfect season.  We won the league with 6 wins, 0 loses and 2 ties.  We won 3 Friendly matches.  For the season, we had a total of 9 wins, 0 loses and 2 ties.
In the Commissioner's Cup tournament in Cheshire, we won 2 games and tied 1 to win our bracket and advance in tournament as the #1 seed for our group.  Then, we beat Guilford (2) in a semi-final match 2-1.  Guilford was a great match-up because we tied them twice during the regular season. Then in the finals, we played a very tired North Haven team and unfortunately they had no subs due to injuries. However, our kids were tough and although we received a couple of minor injuries, all our players started the day and finished the day. We handled the final with ease and won 6-1.
The players and parents really made this 1st coaching season successful for me and I couldn’t have asked for a better start to coaching for Meriden Soccer Club.

Congratulations Girls U-12 Comp, Boys U-12 and U-14 Rec.

Congratulations to the Girls U-12 Comp and the Boys U-12 and U-14 Recreation Programs

Overall we had a very rewarding spring. The U-12 Girls Competition team went from a recreation team this fall to a competition team this spring. They went undefeated for the season and won their division in league play. This team also played many friendly games against teams in higher divisions and won. The U-12 Boys Recreation team went undefeated 9-0-2 for the season and won their division. They also won their division at the Commissioner's Cup in Cheshire.  The U-14 Boys Recreation team also went undefeated and won their division. We are truly pleased with the level of sportsmanship and skill these teams have exhibited this spring. We believe your players represent our club and town with dignity and respect.

Kronenberger Field
by posted 06/30/2009

Thank you to Al Haag for coordinating the field preparation work at Kronenberger. The field conditions have been exceptional this year. Al cuts and lines the fields each week along with his son Kyle. When coaches forgot to remove the goals from the field, Al would drag them by himself so he could cut the lawn. We really appreciate Al and Kyle for their commitment.

We would like to recognize Al Haag, Kyle Haag and John Moore for helping to remove all of the goals and store them in the trailer. This was a six-hour job. Thank you gentlemen for your commitment to this club. Without you, we would not have the high quality facility that we enjoy each week.

U11 and U12 (5th grade to early middle school) are strongly encouraged to graduate to Travel Soccer where skills can be better developed and tested against other town programs.  Through these stages, kids will continue the proper development track by playing 8v8 soccer, and not the full sides 11v11.  This new format, recommended by CJSA, the governing body of soccer in Connecticut, complements our club's player development philosophy.

To those new to the club, MSC's intown program keeps children within very tight, age-appropriate brackets, primarily to limit if not prevent injury.  Our teams are kept small to encourage more playing time, leading to more learning and eventually greater enjoyment of the game, higher self-esteem and enhanced physical development.  Players will get equal playing time regardless of physical ability.  For the youngest members of the club, this is an opportunity to just "play and enjoy themselves."  We strongly discourage applying pressure to win because we believe that our children’s' development through sports takes precedence over the result of any game.
